A highly regarded junior, Jay was selected by the Richmond Football Club in the 2002 AFL Draft. Experiencing a few ups and downs during his time at the Tigers, Jay ultimately struggled to hold down a position as a key forward due to some more senior team mates who were ahead of him.
Fortunately the Port Adelaide Football Club presented an opportunity at the end of the 2009 season to bring Jay back to his home town of SA. After a successful trade between Richmond and Port Adelaide, Jay has not looked back being the club’s leading goal kicker in the 2010, 2012, 2013 & 2014 season.
Leading the Coleman Medal for the majority of the 2014 season, Jay was over run for the medal late in the season. However it is no doubt that Jay’s domination in the forward line and accurate goal kicking was the catalyst in Port Adelaide’s successful 2014 season where they narrowly fell short of a spot in the Grand Final.
Enjoying another strong season in 2015, playing 20 games and kicking 44 games, Jay's 2016 campaign did not get off to a terrific start after injuring a serious back injury early in the season which required surgery. After a successful surgery and rehabilitation, Jay returned to the senior side late in the year. Unfortunately it wasn't enough in the eyes of the Port Adelaide list committee to receive a contract for 2017, effectively ending his AFL career.
Proud of what he was able to achieve over 14 season of AFL footy, Jay will enjoy more time with his growing family whilst also continuing to have a kick with St Kevins in the VAFA.
