Selected as a mature age ruck man from the South Adelaide Football Club in 2014 by the Gold Coast Suns. Keegan AFL’s journey would have to be one of the most interesting in the current game.
An outstanding sportsman as a junior, Keegan had to make the tough choice between a promising Basketball or Football career. However unlike many before him, Keegan made his decision much later in life after turning down a few offers to go to America on a College Basketball Scholarship, before shifting his entire focus to footy in his 20’s.
Making his AFL debut in Round 9 in 2015 for the Suns against his current club, Hawthorn, Keegan managed to add a further two games to his tally before being struck down by a blood clot in his arm, resulting in a number of operations. Whilst it was a scary time for him and his family, Keegan bounced back to play 8 games the following season. However what was to follow has made his journey quite extraordinary.
Delisted by the Suns at the end of 2017, Keegan headed back to South Adelaide where he was announced Captain. However after a good season in the SANFL, West Coast came calling with an opportunity that would see him selected in the Pre-Season Supplemental Period re-igniting his AFL career. Unfortunately Keegan didn’t get a chance to play an AFL game, however he did win the Eagles Reserves Best & Fairest. Destined that the AFL was over for him, Keegan again re-signed with South Adelaide, however before managing to pull the boots on Hawthorn reached out to him where he was thrown another lifeline.
Playing the one game for Hawthorn in the 2020 Season, Keegan is wooing forward to what comes next for him.
