Matt Shaw
Date of Birth: 05/02/1992
Club: Carlton FC
Games (Goals): 102 (32)
Recruited From: 2009 NAB AFL Draft,Gold Coast Concession Pick from Dandenong Stingrays (TAC Cup)
Drafted as one of twelve 17 year olds the Gold Coast Suns were given exclusive access too, Matt had finished his schooling and was excited for the opportunity that beckoned on the Gold Coast. Relocating from Patterson Lakes up to Queensland was a breeze for Matt, given he was a keen fisherman and surfer, and was ready to chase his life long dream of playing AFL.
Whilst Matt didn’t carry the same profile that some of the other draftees had when recruited, it cannot be argued that he has been the one who has benefited most from having an extra year of development before his AFL debut.
A hard running midfielder, Matt has been used predominantly on the wing and at times in defence. He shows great attacking flair and with his long blonde hair he epitomises the look of the Gold Coast. After a difficult 2016 season where he was in and out of the side, Matt is looking forward to the 2017 season and cementing his role once again in the team.
