The local Gold Coast product has been involved with the Suns since the beginning. Taken as a Zone Selection in 2009, Rory played a season in the TAC Cup for the Suns before the team graduated to the VFL competition in 2010, and then into the AFL for its first season in 2011.

An athletic key defender, Rory's height and agility allows him to play in various positions. However it is in defence where he has really shone, taking on some of the games elite power forwards and shitting their influence out of the game. This has included players such as Lance Franklin, Jack Riewoldt, and Tom Hawkins. Playing against these powerful forwards has been a challenging task for Rory, especially in the first few seasons of the clubs existence given their young list. However as the list has continued to grow and mature, Rory has had some assistance down back which has seen his footy excel. This included one of his best seasons to date in 2018, playing 17 games and coming fourth in the Best and Fairest.

Unfortunately injuries haven’t been kind to him the last few seasons. Suffering an ACL injury on the eve of the 2019 season, ruling him out for the year, Rory suffered a recurrence of the same injury in 2020, resulting in him missing the past two seasons. Contracted until 2023, Rory is keen to bounce back next season.

Having grown up on the Gold Coast, Rory likes to get out in the water in his time off, including surfing and fishing.
