Hailing from Maryborough, Troy was selected at Pick 15 of the 2003 NAB AFL Draft to the Port Adelaide Football Club. A highly talented sportsman in his younger years, Troy represented Victoria in Basketball as an Under 16 as well as being an elite junior footballer.
After nine seasons at the Port Adelaide Football Club which included a Grand Final appearance against the all conquering Geelong in 2007, Troy was taken as a free agent by the Richmond Football Club at the end of the 2012 season. Recruited for his strong defensive aspects, Troy led the Richmond backline alongside Alex Rance for four seasons which included back to back finals appearances for the Tigers.
After playing his 200th game in 2016, Troy made the tough decision to give the game away late in the season due to his body showing signs that it was no longer up to the rigours of AFL footy. Whilst emotional in his decision, Troy knew that he wanted to remain in the game as a coach having completed all the necessary certificates, completing the Next Coach Program, as well as undertaking a coaching role for the Oakleigh Chargers. Fortunately Troy received quite a few offers from AFL clubs, including Melbourne as an Assistant Coach which he decided to accept.
Troy is married to his long time partner, Lisa and they have two young children, Elke and Blake. Troy is also an exceptional media performer having been a regular on SEN 1116, along with other programs such as TAC Cup Future Stars.
